Just before noon on Saturday, July 17th, a fortnight after some
Charlevoix sailboats raced to our Harbors buoy, circled
it, and raced back, seven 100 mph+ power boats survived 6' waves
(which turned over a 20 boat in Grand Traverse Bay) to complete
a race from Northport to Beaver and Back.

Over 20 boats set out, but when the anticipated one- to two-foot
waves turned out to be six-footers, most turned back. The first
two to collect their tokens in the Harbor from Sheriff Jim Campbell
and Chamber Director Steve West (who is working to make Beaver
a destination for future races) were Fountains, followed by an
Apache and a Baja.
