Jim Gillingham’s Nature Walk, Antiques Roadshow event Jeff
Thursday: Jim Gillingham’s much-loved Nature Walk for Kids will depart from the Biostation parking lot at 9:00 for a fascinating three-hour tour of several kinds of our habitat. Kids never forget this. Be sure to register in advance (at 448-2254) so we know how many vans will be needed. This is the trip dozens and dozens of kids have gone on and loved, grown up, married, and sent their kids on. Don’t miss it!

Antje Price will open the Protar Home a second time from 1:00 to 3:00. She always has something new to say.
Artist Blacksmiths will arrive on the Island and begin to set up at the Heritage Park, although many won't get here until the next day or two. It's amazing what they can do with a forge and a hunk of iron.

An Antiques Roadshow event will be held from 1:00 to 5:30 at the Community Center. Ward Paul and Chuck Schoenknecht, professional appraisers, will give their ideas on the value of antiques (except for coins, stamps, or weapons) for a donation to the Historical Society of $5/item (or less for multiple items). Collectibles can be dropped off on Wednesday after 3:30, when registration can also be made – so Ward and Chuck know what to expect (and can do some research where necessary).
At 8:00 Paul Turner and Kevin Abbott, two Notre Dame professors, will demonstrate the latest GigaPan technology for recording the details of historic and archaeological research involving Beaver Island sites. Begun in 2008, GigaPan provides a means for shooting, viewing, and exploring blended high-resolution gigapixel images.
