Hunting for the Boonies?

Post by WVBI »

If you are looking for information on when and where to see the latest episode of the Boonies you can find that and information on all island events on the new WVBI Community Calendar. Just head on over to the WVBI website and click on Calendar on the top menu. In addition to Boonies information, you'll find entries for events all over the island all through the year, including:
  • + Summer favorites like Museum Week, Baroque on Beaver, Art in the Harbor and more

+Events at the Beaver Island Community Center including the weekend movies (with full details), wellness events, community meetings and everything else happening at the BICC

+Special meals from COA feats, to AMVETS breakfasts to fundraising dinners

+Beaver Island Community School Events including sports, plays and robot competitions

+Island board meeting dates for the townships, school and library

+Events at the island's churches, including Sunday services

    +Beaver Island Wildlife Club activities

+Events off-island of special interest on the island like the Grand Rapids party and...the Boonies.
We've tried to include everything, but if we've missed your event you can easily add it yourself by using the handy "Post Your Event" button in the upper right of the calendar or by sending an email with the details to calendar@wvbi.net. And, we can make it easy for your events to show up in a nice calendar on your website, too, so you only have to post them once. Your website can show only your events or those plus other categories from the calendar that you choose. What a deal! Email us or call for details.

Oh, and where to find the Boonies? It's on Tuesdays at 9:00 on the National Geographic Channel (DirectTV Channel 256, Dish Channel 186).

And, right now on WVBI you can enjoy some classical music with Exploring Music -- an internationally syndicated radio program featuring classical music, with commentary and analysis by host Bill McGlaughlin. All on your own community radio station right here in the boonies--WVBI on FM 100.1 on the island and worldwide on www.wvbi.net.

Will this be the full calendar replacing the Chamber's rather limited calendar edition?

WVBI Calendar

Post by WVBI »

No. They serve different purposes. We created the WVBI Community Calendar as a community resource and to compliment our WVBI Current Events Updates after our global FSN news reports at 9:00 a.m., noon, 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. It includes events that may not be of much interest to first time or even seasonal island visitors (until they are on the island), while the Chamber Calendar provides a good list of major events that drive visits to the island (and it serves as a source for the WVBI calendar).

It would be hard for us to provide a complete calendar (and to cover as much as possible on the air) without information provided by all island organizations, including the Chamber. So, we thank them and everyone else for supporting our efforts at WVBI.

Listening to your station from Mexico. Thank you for your web site. I love the music. The Boonies can also be downloaded from I-Tunes if you don't have cable but willing to pay for the episodes.

Boonie's Premiere Parties on Tuesday Nights at the Shamrock

Post by capncinde »

Snake Tacos?
Grizzly Bear Burgers?

We've been having fun heading to the Shamrock to watch the Boonies every Tuesday!

And, I'm sure they have it the Stoney Acre Grille as well. Don't miss out if you don't have to!

Costumes welcome

Thank you for all of the work. The calendar is really complete and a nice addition for Beaver Island. The Chamber should add a link on their front page for people to go directly to this great island asset :)
