Wildlife Club Supports Island Fellow
At last night's meeting of the Wildlife Club, in addition to discussions of habitat management, fishing enhancements, and memorials to dear long time members, the Communication Island Fellow was presented. The members present expressed an appreciation for the services this position brings to their mission. But more importantly, the membership verbalized concern for the future of Beaver Island. It was noted in comments of our aging population, declining school enrollment, and the future leadership and workforce of island organizations. To that end, the Wildlife Club approved to generously support the Island Fellow position. Thank you to the board and members!

Pam, thank you for the kind words.
For the future of Beaver Island, the clubs vision is to utilize the state lands to increase tourism, a major industry within the state. Below are MDNR statistics listing the amount of revenue generated, within the state, by category:
Tourism - $22.2 Bil
Hunting - $2.3 Bil
Fishing - $2.4 Bil
Boating - $4.0 Bil
Wildlife Viewing, including birding - $1.2 Bil
Forest Products - $17.9 Bil
The club, and many others have been working with the MDNR, on a Northern Lake Michigan Islands Collaborative, to develop a plan for use of the state lands. We hope to finalize this plan soon, the island Fellow can help market this plan to bring more of the tourism dollars to the Island.
