The links below allow you to view the most current floor plan and elevation for the new school, including the renovated areas. The school board is happy with the work of the architects at BETA Design and with the work of their project manager Tom Sloan.
There will be a School Board Work Session on Monday February 4th at 7:30p.m. at the school to review plans and make near-final decisions. The community is invited to attend the work session. It is expected that the final bid documents will be approved at a school board meeting on February 18th. After the bid documents are completed, general contractors will have several weeks to submit bids. Construction is expected to begin this spring.
The links show the most current information; there will likely be some changes before the bid documents are finalized. A more complete set of drawings is available for viewing at the school.

Thanks to all of you who supported the passage of the bond last summer and to all who have given input and suggestions as we moved through the planning phases. The new Beaver Island Community School will be a building that the community can be very proud of and a building that will serve the community well. Per public input, a fitness room has been added to the design.
As the project nears reality plans are underway to recreate in the new school office the window which adorned the entry to the old McKinley school. If anyone has artifacts or photos of any of the old schools on the island or the outer islands, I would be pleased to have a copy in the hope of creating a timeline of sorts as a permanent display in the new school.
