He was a loyal Notre Dame and Michigan State football fan. Gene enjoyed talking with everyone, especially his co-workers at the Traverse City Record-Eagle and his pressroom gang. He was also a member of the Cherryland VFW Post 2780.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 27, at 11 a.m., at Immanuel Baptist Church.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in memory of Gene.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Munson Hospice for all of their care to Gene, especially Nel, Sara, Nancy and Julie.

Gene would want to be remembered by one of his favorite sayings, "Life is Good!"
