July 26, 2010, the Embridge oil pipeline leaked for 3 days, spilling 843,000 gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River before it could be stopped just a few miles from where the river empties into Lake Michigan. Multiply that spill by a few thousand and that is what lingers waiting to happen under the Big Mac Bridge with aging pipeline number 5. That spill will flow directly into Lake Michigan and reach the Beaver Island coast in an estimated one to two days and continue until it can be stopped. Stopped only after the damage to our water is done and too late. It's time for all of us to become pirates and demand the line be shut down.
