At Thanksgiving we try (depending on the weather) to fly the American Flag and also the Sovereign Nation flags of Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians and The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians.
Two years ago we had a special ceremony to dedicate bricks for each Native American man and woman from the archipelago who served in the armed forces of the United States, twenty-six in all including a Civil War veteran of the 101st Michigan Sharpshooters.
