Beaver Island Birding Trail Update:

Great promotions of the Beaver Island Birding Trail festivities over Memorial Weekend by off island groups such as the Michigan Audubon, MIDNR, MyNorth, and the Pure Michigan campaign has led to a flurry of activity. Rooms are being booked and registrations for some of the events are nearing capacity.
In addition, we're pleased to announce that Dr. Greg Butcher will be on Beaver Island to help with the birding event. Greg is the Migratory Species Coordinator for the USDA Forest Service International Program, Wings Across the Americas. Previous positions included the Executive Director of the American Birding Association and Director of Bird Conservation for the National Audubon Society. He is looking forward to visiting Beaver Island and birding.

Greg will be speaking on â??Michiganâ??s Tropical Connectionsâ?￾: A large proportion of the breeding birds of Michigan winter south of the U.S. border from Cuba and Mexico to Chile and Argentina. While outside of the United States, these species face many threats that they must overcome if they are to return safely. He will discuss the wintering habitats and geography of several of Michiganâ??s migratory birds of high conservation priority and discuss several of the organizations working to reduce the threats to birds south of the border.
