dying trees

Post by Kim Connaghan Jones »

In some areas, there are trees that look like they have perfect holes drilled in the trunks. The hole starts out large and then tapers down to a point. Does anyone know what this is from?

Just a guess, but could it be a Pileated Woodpecker? They are huge birds and we do have a lot of them here on the island.
